Chapter Two: The Attack On Vertaum

by David Halliday

Vertaum was one of the last planets in the Old Empire's grasp. It was one century since Lankan had taken over. Lankan was still alive! Vertaum was a beautiful planet with a fabulous capital. On Vertaum lived Emporus, a young man from the farming community. He lived with his mother and father.

Then Emporus' home was in the midst of confusion. the main question was, "What is my family's culture?" Now it mattered if you were an Old Imperial gone to the New Empire. If you were, you were immediately killed.

Emporus' family was one of these families. The New Empire, now known as The Empire, found out that they were Old Imperials. So the next day, an army set out to destroy them. The army arrived at midday. Nobody was ready for them. So, amidst the confusion of the fight, Emporus escaped. Then he saw his father's blaster on the floor. He thought, "That blaster worked for my father. It might work for me!" So he took the blaster and left.

But then, the soldiers realised what had happened. One captive had escaped! Then, Emporus began his race for survival. Fifty Imperial troops racing after him. Emporus saw a base in the distance and thought, "If I can get to that base, then I'll surrender and be killed by an axe."

Then suddenly Emporus was taken over by a rage. He twirled around and held up his hand. A troop blasted at his hand. it didn't do anything. He jumped for the base...and...he...flew into the gate! Then from a small wall, he blasted as many men as he could. then a troop shot him in the arm. Emporus retreated up a scaled tunnel. He had realised that they would bring in their tanks.

He fell into a room. It was lit with bright lights. He struggled to say to the few people in the room,
"Kill me now."
One of the people stood up. He said, "What are you talking about? We are rebels!"
"Well, can you heal my arm?" asked Emporus.
"Come with me." said the man.
Emporus followed the man to a room he called The Revitalisation Chamber. There, Emporus had his arm encased in "armour". He learnt the man's name was Lintan.
"Would you be Lankan's twin?"
"Yes"
